HCMC plans to build 100 underground anti-flood reservoirs


The Ho Chi Minh City government is mapping out a plan to build underground reservoirs according to the city’s plan by 2020.

Presently, in addition to reservoirs using Japanese Cross-Wave technology in Vo Van Ngan Street in Thu Duc district which can accommodate one hundreds of cubic meters of rainwater, construction of three other reservoirs including Bau Cat in Tan Binh District, Khanh Hoi in district 4 and Go Dua in Thu Duc District are still under constrution. 

Additionally, the HCMC Steering Center of the Urban Flood Control Program is waiting for approval of the municipal People’s Committee to build five another reservoirs for the period 2019-2020 with the investment of over VND475 billion ($20,461,573 ) in Hoang Van Thu Park’s premises in District Tan Binh, Go Vap Flower Park in District Go Vap, in Tran Thien Chanh residential quarter in District 10, in Phan Xich Long Street in District Phu Nhuan and the police station’s premises in ward 25 of District Binh Thanh.

These reservoirs have pumping stations and culverts to reduce flood in regularly inundated areas and surrounding streets.
